A Mother’s Courage

she hid him three months.” – Exodus 2:2 (NKJV)

A mother’s love can make her do almost anything for her children, things that may cause her heart to break. Jochebed, the mother of Moses, gave birth and struggled with fear for her son, the little Hebrew boy, because of the Egyptian king’s decree. The decree stated death for every male child born to an Israelite woman.

She devised a plan to send him away, which surely would have broken her heart. But when God intervenes, miracles occur. She placed him in a basket by the river, and her elder daughter observed the same Egyptian king’s daughter find and fall in love with the baby boy, and decided to keep him as her own. Moses’s mother was able to hold her son again since she was called as someone who could nurse and care for a young child. What an amazing God!

God raised Moses to become the deliverer of His people from Egyptian slavery.

As a single parent taking care of two children all by myself, sometimes I wanted to give up, but because I relied on God, I didn’t give up. Just as  Moses’ mother trusted God, I dried my tears and made myself go to every prayer meeting at church. There, I received peace of mind. And as I went through life, I learned to trust God more and more. Jesus has never failed me to this day. I am still experiencing  Jehovah’s provision for me and my children.

Parents, trust God where you can’t trace Him. Teach your children about Him. Let them know Him for themselves and serve Him in spirit and in truth. Psalm 127:3 (NKJV) states, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward”. Our children are a blessing from God. Matthew 19:14 (NKJV) says, “But Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.’ Jesus places high importance on children, while our responsibility is to train them in God’s ways (Proverbs 22:6)

Prayer

God, I just want to say thank You for all the patience You had with me as I cried, called, prayed, and sought Your face in bad times when there was no father figure in my children’s lives. You are the One Who stuck by me through it all; words can’t express my feelings. Today, I am here saying thank You, because when it seemed impossible, You stepped in and made it possible. Thank You for taking me to where I am today, still serving You faithfully, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
